The MAT: A Guide

What is it?

The Mathematics Aptitude Test (MAT) is a subject specific admissions test for candidates applying to study Mathematics courses at the University of Oxford.

Does it apply to me?

The MAT is taken by students applying to study the following subjects at Oxford only:
Mathematics
Mathematics and Computer Science
Mathematics and Philosophy
Mathematics and Statistics
Computer Science
Computer Science and Philosophy

When is it?

Entries for the MAT generally open at the start of September and close around mid-October. The test itself normally takes place in early November, but it is worth checking the MAT website to confirm the exact dates.

What do I have to do?

The MAT is a paper-based test lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes. It comprises two parts:
1) One multiple choice question made up of 10 sub-questions
2) A choice of 4 from 6 longer problem questions
